PRAYER FOR YOUTH
We offer to you, Loving God, the gifts and needs of youth. Bless them with your guiding grace as they face the challenges and opportunities in their lives. Touch their hearts with the gentleness of your love, that they may know they are valued and valuable beings. Send your spirit of hope to their lives, that they may believe in themselves and know they are needed in this world. Grace them with the gift of joy that they may celebrate life through laughter and tears alike. Guide us, as we continue to grow in appreciation of the many gifts of young people, in the ministry opportunities we offer to them, in the journey of faith we walk with them, in our shared mission as a community called to discipleship in the world. Help us know how to support our youth, especially our middle school and high school students, as we all work together to support them and love them.
We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Saint of the Day: Chiara Badano

An Italian couple prayed for eleven years for a child before the birth of their daughter, Chiara. She grew up a very loving and considerate girl through the guidance of her parents, joined the Focolare movement (a movement dedicated to the unity of all people), attended daily Mass, and loved climbing mountains. Chiara Luce was graced with beauty and had many friends. One day, while playing tennis, she noticed pain which led to her diagnosis of very serious bone cancer.

Through her experience, others saw the redemptive value of suffering. Her eyes held a bright joy noticed by the many visitors to her hospital room, including her medical team and Cardinal Saldarini. One doctor commented, “Through her smile, and through her eyes full of light, she showed us that death doesn’t exist; only life exists.” She offered her suffering to Jesus for the sake of God’s will, whether it was the loss of her hair or walking the hallways with another patient despite a painful growth on her spine. She even frequently refused morphine, “I want to share as much as possible in His suffering on the cross.”

Eventually, she was paralyzed and died at eighteen years old in 1990. She gave everything to others — entrusting her life’s savings to a missionary friend and even donating the cornea of her brilliant eyes. She had not asked for her illness, but she received it with a faithful love that trusted God with her life. Even as she lay bedridden and facing death, she still insisted on loving others, and as a further testament to love, she asked to be buried in a wedding gown.

Her cause for beatification was advanced when young boy named Andrea Bartole miraculously recovered from terminal case of meningitis. His parents had prayed for Chiara’s intercession, and a panel of doctors determined there was no medical explanation for the event. Chiara was beatified on September 25, 2010. She is often quoted as saying, “I have nothing left, but I still have my heart, and with that I can always love.”

ORACIÓN POR LA JUVENTUD Te ofrecemos, Dios de amor, los dones y necesidades de la juventud. Bendícelos con tu gracia guía mientras enfrentan los desafíos y oportunidades en sus vidas. Toca sus corazones con la dulzura de tu amor, para que sepan que son seres valiosos y valiosos. Envía tu espíritu de esperanza a sus vidas, para que crean en sí mismos y sepan que son necesarios en este mundo. Hágales el don de la alegría para que puedan celebrar la vida a través de la risa y las lágrimas por igual. Guíanos, a medida que continuamos creciendo en la apreciación de los muchos dones de los jóvenes, en las oportunidades de ministerio que les ofrecemos, en el camino de fe que caminamos con ellos, en nuestra misión compartida como comunidad llamada al discipulado en el mundo. Ayúdanos a saber apoyar a nuestros jóvenes, especialmente a nuestros estudiantes de secundaria y preparatoria, mientras todos trabajamos juntos para apoyarlos y amarlos.. El Santo del Dia: Chiara Badano

Una pareja italiana oró durante once años por un niño antes del nacimiento de su hija, Chiara. Creció como una niña muy cariñosa y considerada gracias a la guía de sus padres, se unió al movimiento de los Focolares (un movimiento dedicado a la unidad de todas las personas), asistía a Misa todos los días y le encantaba escalar montañas. Chiara Luce estaba dotada de belleza y tenía muchos amigos. Un día, mientras jugaba al tenis, notó un dolor que la llevó al diagnóstico de un cáncer de huesos muy grave.

A través de su experiencia, otros vieron el valor redentor del sufrimiento. Sus ojos tenían una brillante alegría que notaron los numerosos visitantes de su habitación del hospital, incluido su equipo médico y el cardenal Saldarini. Un médico comentó: “A través de su sonrisa y de sus ojos llenos de luz, nos mostró que la muerte no existe; sólo existe la vida.” Ella ofreció su sufrimiento a Jesús por el bien de la voluntad de Dios, ya fuera la pérdida de su cabello o caminar por los pasillos con otro paciente a pesar de un doloroso crecimiento en su columna. Incluso rechazaba con frecuencia la morfina: “Quiero compartir tanto como sea posible en Su sufrimiento en la cruz”.

Finalmente, quedó paralizada y murió a los dieciocho años en 1990. Dio todo a los demás: confió los ahorros de su vida a un amigo misionero e incluso donó la córnea de sus ojos brillantes. Ella no había pedido su enfermedad, pero la recibió con un amor fiel que confiaba en Dios su vida. Incluso mientras yacía postrada en cama y enfrentada a la muerte, todavía insistía en amar a los demás, y como un testimonio más de amor, pidió que la enterraran con un vestido de novia.

Su causa de beatificación avanzó cuando un niño llamado Andrea Bartole se recuperó milagrosamente de un caso terminal de meningitis. Sus padres habían orado por la intercesión de Chiara y un panel de médicos determinó que no había explicación médica para el evento. Chiara fue beatificada el 25 de septiembre de 2010. A menudo se la cita diciendo: “No me queda nada, pero todavía tengo mi corazón, y con eso siempre puedo amar”.
