PRAYER FOR YOUTH
We offer to you, Loving God, the gifts and needs of youth. Bless them with your guiding grace as they face the challenges and opportunities in their lives. Touch their hearts with the gentleness of your love, that they may know they are valued and valuable beings. Send your spirit of hope to their lives, that they may believe in themselves and know they are needed in this world. Grace them with the gift of joy that they may celebrate life through laughter and tears alike. Guide us, as we continue to grow in appreciation of the many gifts of young people, in the ministry opportunities we offer to them, in the journey of faith we walk with them, in our shared mission as a community called to discipleship in the world. Help us know how to support our youth, especially our middle school and high school students, as we all work together to support them and love them.
We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Saint of the Day: Imelda of Lambertini

The patroness of fervent first communion, Blessed Imelda, came from one of the oldest families in Bologna; her father was Count Igano Lambertini and her mother was Castora Galuzzi. Even as a tiny child she showed unusual piety, taking delight in prayer and slipping off to a quiet corner of the house, which she adorned with flowers and pictures to make it a little oratory. When she was nine, she was placed, at her own wish, in the Dominican convent in Val di Pietra, to be trained there by the nuns. Her disposition soon endeared her to all, while the zeal with which she entered all the religious life of the house greatly edified the nuns. Her special devotion was to the Eucharistic presence of Our Lord at Mass and in the tabernacle. To receive Our Lord in Holy Communion became the consuming desire of her heart, but the custom of the place and time had fixed twelve as the earliest age for a first communion. She would sometimes exclaim: "Tell me, can anyone receive Jesus into his heart and not die? "

When she was eleven years old she was present with the rest of the community at the Ascension Day Mass. All the others had received their communion: only Imelda was left unsatisfied. The nuns were preparing to leave the church when some of them were startled to see what appeared to be a Sacred Host hovering in the air above Imelda, as she knelt before the closed tabernacle absorbed in prayer. Quickly they attracted the attention of the priest who hurried forward with a paten on which to receive It. In the face of such a miracle he could not do otherwise than give to Imelda her first communion, which was also her last. For the rapture with which she received her Lord was so great that it broke her heart: she sank unconscious to the ground, and when loving hands upraised her, it was found that she was dead.

Toca sus corazones con la dulzura de tu amor, para que sepan que son seres valiosos y valiosos. Envía tu espíritu de esperanza a sus vidas, para que crean en sí mismos y sepan que son necesarios en este mundo. Hágales el don de la alegría para que puedan celebrar la vida a través de la risa y las lágrimas por igual. Guíanos, a medida que continuamos creciendo en la apreciación de los muchos dones de los jóvenes, en las oportunidades de ministerio que les ofrecemos, en el camino de fe que caminamos con ellos, en nuestra misión compartida como comunidad llamada al discipulado en el mundo. Ayúdanos a saber apoyar a nuestros jóvenes, especialmente a nuestros estudiantes de secundaria y preparatoria, mientras todos trabajamos juntos para apoyarlos y amarlos.. El Santo del Dia: Imelda de Lambertini

La patrona de la ferviente primera comunión, la beata Imelda, provenía de una de las familias más antiguas de Bolonia; su padre fue el conde Igano Lambertini y su madre fue Castora Galuzzi. Ya desde muy pequeña mostró una piedad inusual, deleitándose en la oración y deslizándose hacia un rincón tranquilo de la casa, que adornó con flores y cuadros para convertirlo en un pequeño oratorio. Cuando cumplió nueve años, fue internada, por deseo propio, en el convento de las dominicas de Val di Pietra, para ser educada allí por las monjas. Su disposición pronto la ganó el cariño de todos, mientras que el celo con que entró en toda la vida religiosa de la casa edificó grandemente a las monjas. Su devoción especial fue a la presencia eucarística de Nuestro Señor en la Misa y en el sagrario. Recibir a Nuestro Señor en la Sagrada Comunión se convirtió en el deseo devorador de su corazón, pero la costumbre del lugar y el tiempo había fijado los doce años como la edad más temprana para una primera comunión. A veces exclamaba: "Dime, ¿puede alguien recibir a Jesús en su corazón y no morir?"

A los once años estuvo presente con el resto de la comunidad en la Misa del día de la Ascensión. Todos los demás habían comulgado: sólo Imelda quedó insatisfecha. Las monjas se preparaban para salir de la iglesia cuando algunas de ellas se sorprendieron al ver lo que parecía ser una Hostia Sagrada flotando en el aire sobre Imelda, mientras ella se arrodillaba ante el tabernáculo cerrado absorta en oración. Rápidamente llamaron la atención del sacerdote que se adelantó con una patena para recibirla. Ante tal milagro no pudo hacer otra cosa que darle a Imelda su primera comunión, que fue también la última. Porque fue tan grande el éxtasis con que recibió a su Señor, que le partió el corazón: cayó inconsciente al suelo, y cuando manos amorosas la levantaron, se encontró que estaba muerta.
